Enquirers' Group - Are you thinking about becoming a Communicant Member?
If you are thinking that you have reached the point of becoming a Communicant Member of the Church, have a word with Owain. Neither "having a word with the Minister" nor coming along to an Enquirers' Group, commits you to anything - it's the promises that commit, and you won't be pressured into making them until you are sure you are ready.
The process used to be called "Communicants' Classes" - which suggested people taking notes while the Minister spouted words of wisdom. The world has changed a lot, and in fairness, so has the church. It used to be assumed that most people would take this step in their mid-teens - and many still do, though again in a world that's totally changed! Many others, though, come to this step in their twenties, thirties, fifties, seventies...
The point is this - people reach a point in their lives, and in their spiritual journey, where this seems right. And for many people nowadays, they will be coming into the life and communion of the Church without prior experience. Equally, many - still, perhaps, a majority - will be returning to the faith they were brought up in, and claiming it as their own. And there will be people who, for all sorts of reasons, have lived their lives a a part of the Church, but have never taken this step.
Equally, there are growing numbers of people who have never been baptized.
None of this is a problem. None of this need be scary or off-putting. Yes, these are huge things - but in the most beautiful and profound way. If you want to talk through any aspect of this, in complete confidence and with a guarantee of no pressure, speak to Owain.
